CSR-1 Registration

As per the requirements of Section 135 of Companies Act, 2013, certain companies have to spent 2% of their average yearly profits of the last three financial years on CSR projects in India. Generally, these companies undertake CSR activities/projects through registered NGOs.
To receive these CSR funds, NGOs need to register as "Bodies undertaking CSR activities" with the Registrar of Companies (ROC). This rule for CSR Registration for NGOs started on April 1, 2021. Eligible NGOs must register with the ROC by submitting the CSR-1 Application.

Eligibility for CSR-1 Registration

NGOs will be eligible to apply for CSR-1 registration certificate if they meet below mentioned criteria:

CSR-1 Registration Certificate

The CSR-1 Registration certificate is valid for 3 years. After three years, the NGO can renew its registration by submitting a new application to the MCA.

CSR-1 registration is a process through which an NGO can get itself registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) in order to avail various benefits under the Companies Act, 2013.

In order to get registered with the MCA, an NGO needs to submit an application in the prescribed format along with the required documents. The registration process is completed within a period of 60 days from the date of receipt of application.

The process of CSR-1 registration is as follows:

1. The entity must download the CSR-1 form from the MCA website.
2. The entity must fill in the CSR-1 form and attach all the required documents.
3. The entity must get the CSR-1 form certified by a practicing professional (CA/CS/CWA).
4. The entity must submit the CSR-1 form to the MCA through the MCA's online portal.
5. The MCA will process the CSR-1 form and issue a CSR registration certificate to the entity.

Once an NGO gets CSR-1 registration, it becomes eligible to receive donations from companies which are required to spend 2% of their annual net profits on CSR activities. Moreover, the NGO can also apply for other CSR funds available under different schemes of the government.

The following entities are eligible for CSR-1 registration: 1. Companies that are required to spend a minimum of 2% of their net profit on CSR activities under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013. 2. Trusts, societies, and other non-profit organizations that are registered under Section 12A of the Income Tax Act, 1961. 3. Section 8 companies that are registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.
